My Story

I'm an software engineer living in Germany. Beside engineering passion, I'm interested in capital market. From engineer mindset, I want to keep track of my investment activities to see my strategien work with world happenning events. I have not only one depot but multiple depot. That is my strategy! Because I want to have diverse products with different risk level, and there is no market that can provides all products that I want to buy. Therefore different depot accounts are required. But with different depot accounts, we do not have any overview of all our assets!

Open source solutions are always my best choice for processing my private data. For someones who needs a robust, made in Germany solution for tracking investment data, FinnanzFluss is not a bad software. With few buckets a month, realtime data can be presented in a cross platform application. But that is not my choice, I'm a software engineer and I want to control all of my private data!

Open Source Solutions

wealthfolio is a potential opensource solution for managing personal wealth. Compared to another wellknown open source ghostfolio, the wealtfolio provides better method for importing activities, some free market data connections like yahoo finance, xetra, deutsche börse are built in feature. For people living in europe, such market data connections are useful to keep track of asset value. Even that yahoo finance provides market data for a huge number of finance instruments, but europe still has diverse products that can not be found in yahoo finance, especially in bond market.

portfolioperformance is a wellknown made in germany open source software. The software is a cross platform software that supports android, ios, linux, windows, macOs, etc. The portfolio performance does not support web GUI.

Manuell Effort

But even with a good open source solution like wealthfolio, tracking personal investments still costs a lot of manuell effort because in Germany, there is no law that requires depot providers to provide trading information for individual customer. For example, I'm ING bank customer, and I do not have any opportunity to export all my trading as csv. I do have monthly a pdf file for my depot account, but not easy importable data. Banks like ING, they do not have to have such feature.

Conclusion

My choice for open source software that helps me keep track of my investment activities is wealthfolio based on its active development, modern architecture and light weight on run time. One piece missing in my
